The NASI – Scopus Young Scientist Award 2016

 
The Scopus Young Scientist Awards were first launched by Elsevier in 2006. In 2009, India officially adopted the program within its scientific community through Elsevier's collaboration with NASI. The program honors young researchers who are building their careers in academic research, helping them gain recognition for their work.
 
The NASI – Scopus Young Scientist of the year will receive:
A citation & a plaque
Cash prize of INR 75,000
 
Awards will be given in the following 9 areas of Science, Technology & Medicine:
Agriculture
Biological sciences
Chemistry
Earth, Oceanographic & Environmental Studies
Engineering
Mathematics
Medicine
Physics
Social Sciences
 
Criteria for Application
An Indian citizen, residing and working in India
Have completed atleast PhD/MD or equivalent degree
Must be born on or after January 1st, 1976.

The candidates who fulfill the above criteria can fill the application form, take a print and along with the desired documents (mention in the application form), send it to:

Last year’s NASI-Scopus Young Scientist Awards program attracted nearly 650 applications from premier research Institutions across India. A panel of 32 subject experts from India's academic community judged the applications, using quantitative analyses from Scopus data provided by Elsevier. Additional criteria the judges used included:
Quality and number of publications
Nature and uniqueness of research
Outcomes of research
Impact on society
Vision of the researcher

(With Open Source Tools)” 23 to 27 November 2015



One week International Workshop on “Modern Information Management for Research and Education Oriented Libraries (With Open Source Tools)” was organized by Central Library of All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society’s College of Engineering Pune, in association with Hasselt University Belgium from 23 to 27 November 2015. Marc Goovaerts (Head Librarian, Bibliotheek Universiteit Hasselt, and Belgium) was the Chief Guest for this International Workshop. Paul Nieuwenhuysen (Professor, Virje Universiteit Brussels, Belgium) delivered key note address on “Information discovery systems for research and higher education” Pieter Lernout (Librarian, Bibliotheek Universiteit Hasselt, Belgium) Dr Egbert De Smet (Professor, University of Antwerp, Belgium), Dr ARD Prasad (Professor and Head, Documentation Research and Training Centre, Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore), Dr S M Pujar (Chief Librarian, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai) Dr Sunita Barve (Senior Technical Officer, NCL, Pune) was  resource persons for this workshop. The entire workshop has been well planned and more attention was given on learning new aspects like ABCD (Library management Software) Vufind (Information discovery tool) and Word press (website design tool) with practical sessions. Various Library professionals from South Africa, Maharashtra, Goa, and Hyderabad attended this workshop. Mr Eric Muheto got scholarship from Burundi University (South Africa) to attend this workshop. 






ONE DAY WORKSHOP “Getting to know more all about open access” 19 October 2015

One Day Workshop on “Getting to know more all about open access” was conducted in All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society’s College of Engineering Pune, in association with INASP UK on 19 October 2015. AISSMS COE Library participated in Open Access Week Competition and won a grant of 500$ from INASP UK to organize various event on “Open Access” at AISSMS COE. The main aim behind organizing this workshop was to sensitizing librarians and all faculty and students of AISSMS College of Engineering by giving them information about OPEN Access movement. This workshop will help them to learn more about Open Access, to adopt Open access practices help educate their colleagues at their institutional Campus.
Dr S K Patil (Ex Librarian Pune University) was Chief Guest for this function, Mrs Sunita Barve (Senior Technical Officer, NCL, Pune) and Mr Syed Raiyan Ghani (Mangeger, Knowledge Management Pune) was the resource person for this workshop. Information about open access sources for students and teachers is displayed at reading hall as well at college entrance. Each and every activity of AISSMS COE Library is shared and appreciated by INASP, UK. Mrs. Vrushali Dandawate (Librarian, AISSMS College of Engineering, Pune) was the Convener of this event.
